Two days sick in Santiago

The overnight bus back from Pucon wasn’t as pleasant as it usually was. I was next to a young girl and her family and there was a baby crying somewhere. But because of my cough, I kept waking up. I arrived at Susie’s around 9am and instantly went to bed. I woke up around 12 and had a shower – I felt terrible! We went out to lunch to an organic cafe because I felt like soup. Naturally, all the soups had cream in them so I couldn’t eat them, and the service was on South American time, not in a good way. I was out of breath walking home.

I went back to bed at Susie’s and slept through right until 5pm. I think I had a fever plus a cough and now blocked sinuses. Susie cooked some pasta for dinner and we watched TV. I was back in bed by 10.

The next day was very similar, I didn’t get up until 11am and only to go to the pharmacy. I invested almost NZ$50 in decongestant medicine and cough syrup. Then Susie and I went to get a coffee together. The drugs started helping at once.

I just relaxed in the afternoon, only going out to buy food for dinner (I had a hankering for roast chicken) and also for Rapa Nui. I had been told food was expensive and limited supply on the island, so I packed some fresh veges, rice and soy sauce into my bag! We ate the roast for dinner then I was in bed by 9.
